About Me
Why am I so confident about my advice? Because I’m an expert in jobs and job searches, and I also know how to create a life that rocks, and I’m living proof of it.
I have more than 20 years of experience as a headhunter and career coach, and I know what it takes to just get a job, and what it takes to get a job you actually love.
I’ve spoken to thousands of jobseekers at all levels about my process, I’ve been quoted in the San Francisco Chronicle, the San Jose Mercury News and Wired Magazine, and I’ve been invited to share my methods at places like the World Trade Club’s Symposium on Careers in International Business, and for groups like Women in Technology.
I also have a lot of experience on the other side of the desk as a job-seeker, because I’ve had more than my fair share of jobs. My first paying gig was as a day camp counselor, then an office gopher at an interior design showroom, a typist at an automobile club, and secretary at a uniform company. I drove the neighborhood ice cream truck for a summer, was California’s youngest licensed accident and health insurance agent, delivered singing telegrams for Western Union, and was an answering service operator back before the era of voicemail.
And those jobs were all while I was a teenager!
I worked my way through college as a bartender, dispatched newspapers, managed an international pop band on an island in Thailand (now there’s a dream job, or at least you’d think so, wouldn’t you?), worked for a branding company that came up with product names, was administrative and human resources manager for an oh-so-hip ad agency (ah, beware the oh-so-hip!), have been editor and desktop publisher for executive education programs and minority business development publications, and a business consultant for entrepreneurs. And that’s all in addition to, and in between, twenty years as a recruiter and job-search coach.
As you can see, I’ve enjoyed a great variety of jobs in my career, which suits me, because I know that I have a need for new challenges and adventures, but no matter what else I do, I always return to recruiting and job-search coaching. It’s one way I “have it all” in my life… a career where I can continue to develop and grow, and the option for new adventures, too. That is part of the life of MY dreams.
Many people also know me as an activist for nightlife in San Francisco (an experience in volunteering that cracked my life wide open), which led to me being quoted in Village Voice and Rolling Stone Magazine, being featured in the San Jose Mercury News, and interviewed about nightlife and electronic music culture by the BBC, CBS, countless local radio stations, and a national talk show.
I’m a real person with a big heart and a whole lot of experience in the most effective way to get a job. My advice is solid, because I know my stuff.
I’ve created a life that works for me on just about every level. Your life, of course, will look entirely different, because you are YOU, but the secrets to getting there really are universal… know yourself first, learn what the ingredients are that you need to be happy, and then take actions to get that rolling.
As I said before, it’s not rocket science, but it won’t happen on its own either. That’s why I’m here; I want to share this with people like you who are ready to invest a little so you can start having the kick-ass life you deserve, too.
My focus has always been on daring to express your individuality in a cookie-cutter world, which is a good idea no matter what town you live in or what kind of company you work for. Our world will be a better place when people can be themselves in all aspects of their life, at work, at home, at play. No doubt about it.
My mission is to change the world by inspiring you to be yourself, and by teaching you how to get the job and life of your dreams. That way, we all win. Are you ready? Let’s
do it!
