Resume Services from The REAL Job Search Guru

In this job market, you need a resume bulls-eye.

Resume Bullseye

Your resume is the single most powerful tool for your job search.

“I was recently looking for a new job, and Leslie helped me polish up my resume for the daunting task of finding another job in a tough market. She refocused and reformatted, and emphasized my strengths. The new resume got me the interview for the job of my dreams, which is actually a promotion from my last job, and I got the job! I highly recommend Leslie for her insight and her expertise. She really knows her stuff.”

Arti K.
Marketing Manager

In this job market, employers are inundated with applications for every opening, and they use resumes decide who they’re going to interview.

Statistically you’ve probably got less than a 50-to-1 chance of making that cut, and with those odds, a good resume just isn’t good enough. You need a resume bulls-eye.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re a silver-haired CEO or a fresh-faced intern, whether you’re answering blind online job postings or only networking with people you’ve known for years… you need a resume that is sharp and aimed right at the job you want.

Your resume has one job… to hit the target
so they absolutely must give you that interview.

hit the target
That’s a pretty big goal for a short document that may only get about fifteen or twenty seconds of attention.

In those few moments, your resume must hit its target… because if it doesn’t, they move to the next resume, and you don’t get the interview, so you don’t get the job.

Your resume absolutely positively has to be aimed at the target.

What is your resume really saying about you?

Your resume should say "I've got what you want"Whether you are know it or not, your resume practically screams certain things about you that go beyond the words on the page, and people are making decisions about you based on what it tells them.

The layout, the font, the language, where you’ve worked, how long you were there, how you describe your jobs, how you showcase your special talents and abilities, what information you choose to offer and what you choose to omit or sidestep…it’s all telling a story.

On the page and between the lines, your resume is telling the tale of you, and you can make sure it’s the right story.

Your resume needs to declare: “I’ve got what you want, so interview me!”

You need a resume bulls-eye.

A resume that hits the target …

  • Resume bullseye tells your story in a friendly way that shows the very best of who you are and what you’ve done
  • expresses your personality through its look, tone and words
  • speaks directly to the requirements of the job you’re after
  • delivers the necessary information
  • is simple and well organized
  • is easy to read and to quickly scan
  • is attractive and appealing in its design
  • speaks clearly in easy-to-understand language
  • establishes a great first impression
  • makes you look right for the job

Does your resume hit a bulls-eye for the job you want?

hit the targetThe truth is that most resumes are pretty awful. They’re bland and ordinary, they’re not relevant to the job they’re submitted for, and they’re badly written and produced.

Rather than being an asset to a job search, most resumes are a liability.

“I am so grateful I found you, Leslie... your resume re-do turned out to be the turning point in my career!

You revised my resume in a way that I wouldn't have been able to do on my own and the next day, I applied for a Controller position I didn't think I had a chance for.

Well, the interviewer said my resume was his favorite out of all the ones he received, and he offered me the job on the spot, with a higher salary than I expected, too! Thanks Leslie. I highly recommend you!”

Janell B.
Accountant/Controller

The reason they’re so awful is that most people
create their resume on their own.

I can understand why. After all, if you’re a talented person, how hard can it be to throw together a resume?  And your background speaks for itself. Right?

Well, no. The truth is that you can be the greatest software engineer, accountant, salesperson or even marketing executive in the world, but that doesn’t necessarily translate into having what it takes to create a great resume that says what it needs to say and does what it needs to do.

Resumes are not like other business documents.

Resumes use their own kind of language and structure, and must convey very specific information. There are certain requirements and traditions that you can’t stray far from, and it must fit on two pages or less. You’re limited to text in standard fonts, and photos, graphics and color are pretty much no-no’s.

The challenge is to respect the requirements but still deliver your story in a way that expresses your individuality.

As you can tell, I’m passionate about resumes.

Things I am a resume expert. In my years of recruiting, I’ve reviewed, revised and written thousands of resumes. I understand the job search process from the inside, and know what’s happening in the changing employment market.

Because of my recruiting experience, I know what your competition’s resumes look like, which resume got the interview, and which ones didn’t.

More important, I understand the psychology of resumes and how they communicate, even when you don’t know it. The words, the structure of sentences, the readability, the font, the order of information, there are many things that send a message, and that can be used to send the message you want.

I also believe that everyone should be themselves, and that should shine through in your resume, so whoever reads it gets a sense of what you’re about as a person. That means I don’t use specific templates or ornate standardized layouts, and every resume I create is distinct and personal, tailored for you.

If it’s time for some work on your resume, let me help you transform the story of your education and experience and turn it into an honest and elegant document, one that shows you at your absolute best, with personality and confidence.

(That also means there may be times when I’m booked and turnaround is a little slower, but if that’s the case, I’ll let you know right away, and I’ll do my best to keep that from happening.)
